Evening Flowers
When I started this painting I had a very specific idea, it was really about the light and the angle in which the light fell over the composition, the way it moved through the still life. I made a lot of changes along the way - it was as if I was fighting the painting to keep it on track. I used to paint the background early in the painting and be done with it, but now I find that I revisit the background sometimes many times before I'm satisfied with it - I'm trying to make it support the overall impression I'm going for. I happy with this outcome, however I don't know if I got what I was going for exactly. I am finding more and more patience with my process, a little less determined to finish, more interested in reaching the goal I set for the painting even if it requires rework.
I think you have a lovely painting here and so your efforts were well worth it. It sounds as if you are involved with , and enjoying the act of painting and that is what it is all about for me too.
