An Odd Pearing

It has been a cold week in San Diego, a good time to paint a still life or two.  The red ground is very strong here, not sure I got the balance I was after with the blue stoneware vase in the center and the copper pot to the right.  The painting started with a much lighter background color, but it was losing the fight against the foreground.   And since I didn't want to kick the foreground back, I had to give more weight to the back.
