China Mums with Marigolds

I did this study on Arches Paper for Oils and I'm not sure yet if I like it, there isn't much of a tooth, or perhaps it's just different.  (Above is the block in). It feels as if the paper absorbs the paint a bit.  Below is the finished study.  I don't know if it's done-done, but it's done.

  1. I really like this painting! Love the softness of your work. So poetic :-)

I once bought some really cheap gesso that was way too absorbent for my liking. So now after I gesso, I rub a bit of Graham walnut oil onto the surface. It dries rather quickly. Makes for a really nice surface to paint on for oils.

Terrific painting! Enjoy getting your updates in my email.
