Morning at Del Mar

I started this painting on site and brought it back to the studio for some finishing touches, which is alway a challenge and not necessarily always a good idea.  I wanted to work on the cliffs in shadow, bring out some of the warmth in the shadows but also keep the cool early morning shadows.  I finally put the paintbrush down long after I should have but if learning is the point, it was a very successful exercise!

  1. I feel like I am there! This is beautiful.
I agree it is a risk to work on a plein air piece back in the studio and I have ruined more than I have saved, but you never lost the fresh air feel to this one.
